Employment Discrimination on the Basis of Disability Training

West Virginia Advocates is pleased to sponsor a seminar for attorneys and advocates. The training is being presented by experienced attorneys who will provide perspectives from individuals with disabilities, the employer, as well as the State’s Attorney General's office. Presenters will discuss other areas of law that impact employment cases and how the ADA Amendments have changed employment law. The seminar will focus on the rights of individuals with disabilities in the workplace and remedies available when discrimination occurs.

Allan N. Karlin
Allan N. Karlin & Associates
Yale College
Boalt Hall, the Law School of the University of CA at Berkeley

Since 1981, Mr. Karlin has represented clients in personal injury and employment cases in West Virginia. He has been nationally recognized for his work in the field of employment law. He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors. Mr. Karlin was a member of the West Virginia Lawyer Disciplinary Board for six years and served of Chairperson of the Board for three years.

Paul R. Sheridan

Mr. Sheridan is Deputy Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division. As a member of the Civil Rights Division, he has litigated discrimination and harassment cases since October 1990. He organized the West Virginia Hate Crime Task Force and has been recognized for his work related to hate crime awareness. Mr. Sheridan assisted in the development of training and resource material on hate crime for the United States Department of Justice and the United States Department of Education.

Since 1981, Mr. Morrison has represented employers in the areas of safety and labor and employment law. He provides day-to-day advice on the multitude of issues that arise in the workplace, and he handles employment litigation. Among his activities and honors, he is a Fellow in the American College of Labor & Employment Law, Past President and current Executive Committee Member of the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation, Permanent Member of the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference and a former adjunct lecturer at the West Virginia College of Law on both pre-trial strategies (with Al Karlin) and on litigation skills. He has published articles and lectured over 75 times on various employment law topics.
