May is Lupus Awareness Month

Posted: April 25, 2011

The immune system of individuals with Lupus cannot differentiate between foreign matter and its own cells and tissues.

With individuals with Lupus, their immune systems direct antibodies against itself resulting in damage, inflammation and pain to various parts of the body including:

  • Blood
  • Skin
  • Joints
  • Brain
  • Lungs
  • Kidneys
  • Heart

For most individuals Lupus will be of a mild form affecting only a few parts of the body. However in some cases it can be a serious, even life threatening condition.

Show your support for the Lupus Foundation of America, and for those you may know who have Lupus, by Wearing Purple on May 10, 2011.
