WVATS presentation on assistive technology, Sept. 4th in Charleston

Posted: August 16, 2012

Do you wear glasses or contacts?

Do you walk with a cane or a walker?

Is hearing difficult without a hearing device?

If so, on Tuesday evening, September 4, at 7:00 in the chapel, Baptist Temple is sponsoring a program about assistive technology (AT) presented by WVATS.

The West Virginia Assistive Technology System (WVATS) works to enhance the lives of all West Virginia residents by providing access to assistive technology devices and services.

Assistive Technology (AT) is any device used to perform tasks that would otherwise be difficult or impossible. These devices can be as complex as computers with screen reading software or as simple as Velcro used in place of buttons or shoe laces.

Is there something you would like to do that is difficult? Use a computer? Talk on the phone? Get up and down the stairs?

WVATS can help match you with devices that can help you do things more easily. WVATS can provide information and referral through its toll free hotline and e-mail. WVATS loans AT devices to help you, a family member, a friend, or a neighbor choose the best device to meet a need. WVATS also provides assistance and training on AT to providers, families, and persons who need AT.

On September 4 at 7:00 PM in the chapel at Charleston Baptist Temple, you will view a demonstration of AT devices. Is there a particular device that you would like to see? Consider a need that may include gardening, education, employment, community living, or information technology and telecommunications.

Call Nancy White at 304–925–1075 to see if this device is able to be demonstrated for you.
